Congratulations to Jamie from Florida who won our first drawing! These great books are now making the perilous journey from the dry deserts of AZ to the humid climates of FL. We hope Jamie loves these books as much as we do!
For everyone else who didn’t win this time, don’t worry! Your entries are still in the drawing for the next two prizes. You can also enter more by restacking this post or by one of the means outlined below. Read on to learn what’s still up for grabs and how to get into the mix.
Prize Two: Gateway to the Great Books
Our second giveaway (Drawing on July 15th) is the Gateway to the Great Books! This ten volume collection, put together by Mortimer Adler, is a wonderful collection of Short Stories, essays on Literature, Society, Science, Mathematic, and Philosophy by some of the brightest minds in history. These are perfect for quicker reads on a wide range of issues. This set is perfect for anyone who is looking to widen their horizons and learn about all things that pertain to the human mind and experience. The set we are giving away is used, but in sound condition. It hasn’t been printed since 1963! Of course I have already offered you this set as a free gift in digital form, but nothing beats owning the physical thing!
Prize Three: The Great Books of the Western World (1954 Edition)
Our third giveaway (Drawing on July 31) is the Great Books of the Western World! I really cannot overemphasize the value of owning this set. The GBWW was originally printed in 1954 (containing 54 volumes) and then reprinted in 1990 (containing 60 volumes). In this set Mortimer Adler gathered together the most influential books in the history of Western Civilization. Reading the Great Books of the Western World will change your life! You will enter into the ancient and ongoing human conversation and find that from Homer to Freud (and to our own day) men have been wrestling with the same questions about truth, goodness, and beauty. You will also see how the answer to those most central of questions was fulfilled in Christ Jesus our Lord and unpacked by the most brilliant minds of christendom.
The most amazing thing about this set? The two-volume Syntopicon at the beginning of the collection! The syntopicon is a list of the “Great Ideas” and everywhere those topic appear throughout the entire collection. It is one of the greatest research tools on the planet as far as I am concerned. Want to know what Plato, Aristotle, Livy, Augustine, Aquinas, Dante, and Shakespeare had to say about War, Government, or God? You can use the Syntopicon for that and numerous other fascinating topics. 2
