Hello friends! First of all, thank you for being a part of this project with me and for subscribing to my newsletter(s). It is my sincerest hope that the resources here are a blessing to you and to many others. Recently we just broke 200 subscribers which is a great milestone and I am thankful to you for sharing this Substack with others (as I know many of you have).
Now for some really exciting news…
A podcast is in the works! My dear friend, Joel Ellis, and I are starting a podcast called “Tolle Lege” where we will be discussing Great Books together. “Tolle Lege” is Latin for “Take up and read” and is a reference to Augustine’s Confessions. This is the phrase he heard in the garden when he took up the Scriptures and read the passage that converted his heart to the love of Christ. Truly, reading is a central discipline of the Christian life and that is what this podcast is going to be all about.
We have set up a new Substack at https://thetollelegepod.Substack.com, so please check that out if you are interested in subscribing. We have plans to record our first podcast later this month and we plan to release it on all the major podcasting apps. I will be sure to post here on Study The Great Books once the first episode is released. You can also follow us on Twitter @tolle_lege_pod and subscribe to our YouTube page as well.
Joel and I have a longstanding friendship that grew out of our mutual love for Jesus Christ and his word. He is a pastor (my pastor) and I am a classical Christian educator. Joel is enrolled in the same Ph.D. Program in Great Books that I am (Lord willing) going to finish in the near future. We both love the Great Tradition, we both read widely in theology, philosophy, history, and fictional literature. Both of us are medievalists at heart and have sat at the paws of Aslan for a good long time in Narnia. I think you will enjoy the friendship and chemistry of conversation which comes so naturally to us from our years of friendship and discussing Great Books and Great Ideas. It only made sense that we should start recording the kind of conversations we are already having on a regular basis anyway.
I hope you are excited! I know I am!
Pod on, dear friends, I will subscribe and pray.
Sounds like an exciting new adventure!!
