It’s Spring Again! The birds are chirping, the bees are humming, God is on his throne, Study The Great Books is having a sale and giveaway, and all is right in the world!
Spring Sale
It’s our pleasure to announce that for the whole month of April we are offering 15% off on all paid subscriptions and that this discount will be good for life! As long as you keep the subscription, you keep the savings! You can get this great deal and gain access to our ever growing library of PDF Great Books Study Guides. That means for just $4.25 a month or $42.50 a year you’ll be able to access all the helps you need to begin learning about the greatest works of history, literature, philosophy, theology, poetry, etc., ever written. You can also give this deal as a gift to someone else! STGB Study Guides are perfect for personal study, for leading book clubs, for homeschooling families, and for classical Christian educators.
Fight Grendel alongside Beowulf, search for an elusive but deadly Green Knight, learn about how the Benedictine Monks saved western culture, experience the meteoric rise and fall of Macbeth, consider the nature of justice and piety with Socrates, explore Roman Britain with a centurion named Marcus, go on missionary journeys with Paul the apostle, go thousands of years into the future with a time traveller, or hunt down a wicked vampire with Dr. Van Helsing (how’s that for variety?). These and many more adventures await. New study guides are being added constantly. We anticipate Dante’s Inferno being available later this week and we are also presently developing guides for The Primitive Rule of the Knights Templar, by Bernard of Clairvaux, Mere Christianity, by C. S. Lewis, Whose Body?, by Dorothy Sayers, and Confessions, by Saint Augustine. Lots more to come!
Spring Giveaway
In addition to the sale, we are sweetening the deal for paid subscribers even more. We are doing a drawing at the end of April! One lucky winner will be the recipient of The Collected Poems of J. R. R. Tolkien! This three volume set is an absolute treasure for those who love Tolkien’s works or for anyone who simply loves poetry in general. It’s a beautiful set (I have one myself)!
How can you enter to win?
One way to enter is to become a new Paid Subscriber in the month of April (all current Paid Subscribers are already in the drawing). If you don’t win this time, don’t worry, you’ll be in the running for subsequent drawings.

You can do this by going into your Substack Dashboard and finding the heading which says “Recommendations.” Just search “Study The Great Books” and select us to recommend to your readers. Be sure to say something nice about us!

Here is one of my favorite Tolkien Poems (From the Hobbit)
Under the Mountain dark and tall
The King has come unto his hall!
His foe is dead, the Worm of Dread,
And ever so his foes shall fall.
The sword is sharp, the spear is long,
The arrow swift, the Gate is strong;
The heart is bold that looks on gold;
The dwarves no more shall suffer wrong.
The dwarves of yore made mighty spells,
While hammers fell like ringing bells
In places deep, where dark things sleep,
In hollow halls beneath the fells.
On silver necklaces they strung
The light of stars, on crowns they hung
The dragon-fire, from twisted wire
The melody of harps they wrung.
The mountain throne once more is freed!
O! wandering folk, the summons heed!
Come haste! Come haste! across the waste!
The king of friend and kin has need.
Now call we over mountains cold,
'Come back unto the caverns old'!
Here at the Gates the king awaits,
His hands are rich with gems and gold.
The king is come unto his hall
Under the Mountain dark and tall.
The Worm of Dread is slain and dead,
And ever so our foes shall fall!
I’m new here. How do I add STGB to my recommendeds?
Just so I understand, the giveaway is only for paid subscribers?
