A Boxed Set of Jane Austen's Novels!

Hello friends of Study The Great Books!

As many of you know we have been doing a giveaway for the month of April. An absolutely beautiful, 3 volume, boxed set of The Collected Poetry of J. R. R. Tolkien has been up for grabs. Well, a winner has been drawn and attempts to reach that person have been made, but so far to no avail. Check your email everyone (Spam folders too, just in case). If I don’t get a response by the end of tomorrow I will draw again!

I shall not wait, however, to announce that we are keeping on with great giveaways! In the very merry month of May STGB is giving away a boxed set of Jane Austen’s novels!

Austen is among the ranks of the greatest novelists of all time. Her name deserves to be mentioned in the same breath with Dickens and Dostoyevsky. She is unparalleled in her ability to examine and lay bare the various personalities of mankind. Her characters are just the sort that make you say, “I know someone just like that!” She shows the danger of yielding to every impulse or passion and, contrariwise, the reward of temperance and sticking fast to good principles even through personal pain. The modern notion that one’s feeling cannot be wrong is destroyed at the feet of Miss Austen’s withering pen. Her stories are entrancing, her comic portrayals of ridiculous people unparalleled, her heroes admirable, her sense of humor sharp, and her love of upholding virtue laudable. If you haven’t gotten into Jane Austen yet, you are needlessly depriving yourself of something fundamentally good. Do you care nothing for your own felicity?

3. Recommend (or continue to recommend) Study The Great Books on your own Substack to gain another entry.¹

   1. You can do this by going into your Substack Dashboard and finding the heading which says “Recommendations.” Just search “Study The Great Books” and select us to recommend to your readers. Be sure to say something nice about us!

Conditions:

1. You must live in the contiguous United States to be eligible to win.

2. You must respond within 48 hours of being notified that you have won.

3. You must be willing to supply a valid mailing address.

4. You must be willing to take a picture with your prize when you receive it so that we may share it with others. (We want everyone to be confident of the legitimacy of the giveaways being done by STGB)
