In this short video Joel and I discuss Christian films (and why they often fall short of excellence). This is not to discourage Christian involvement in film and story writing. Christians absolutely should be screenwriters and novelists but we should be doing it better than we often are. Here are our thoughts:

So Joel’s son, Elijah, runs our recording equipment and he makes the YouTube uploads and edits. So I had nothing to do with the clips that got put in there. I am not down on those particular movies. There are some good and bad things about them. I thought Courageous was pretty good in a lot of ways. I also like Moms Night Out pretty well.
I think we have to be careful when being critical, although I admit I have been very critical in the past of Christian entertainment. We have to remember there are so many considerations, among them are budget (you gotta start somewhere), and audience (who are they making this for?), and, of course, taste. You might not like what I like! I can't stand some of the Christian movies made, but my mother in law sure does! She doesn't find them hokey at all, and a good alternative to TV/Netflix watching. I find it interesting that you seem to reference particular films/film makers by your cuts to certain scenes. My assumption is that they are "bad" examples. Is that what you are implying? This is a very interesting discussion, and as a mother to an aspiring novelist and film script writer, I really appreciate it!
