Personally, I would add Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. His Large Catechism (currently reading) is a good commentary on the Small Catechism for pastors, teachers, heads of households, or any adult. These have been in use for nearly 500 years. In fact, I’m starting a class in a couple of weeks.

God bless!

Thanks! Saved me from posting. Grew up with the Memory Book for Lutheran Schools and those memorized hymns are still my favorite.

I have a catechism for each of my classes. It’s a great way to focus a classroom and start with meaningful words.

I love the call and response in old primers. The leap from that to Socratic dialogue is easy.

And I love how the science of learning folks are catching up to the necessity of just, you know, knowing stuff. By rote did not mean not thinking.
