I was raised with an aversion to creeds and creedalism as a reaction to dead orthodoxy. Your effort here to show creeds imbedded in Scripture is a helpful reminder to stay centered between the ditches.
I understand. I suppose I was raised with that perspective too. I used to hate things like pre-written prayers, for instance. I think I realized along the way that dead orthodoxy is more a matter of the heart than the outward forms of worship. I think many of the mainline denominations which we associate with dead orthodoxy have an outward appearance of being connected with creedalism, but the issue is not the creeds but their lack of belief in the content expressed in the creeds and ultimately in the Bible. When one has proper affection for Christ and his word the creeds play a useful role in the life of devotion. That’s my view, anyway.
I agree with you on that. One of the big steps to manhood is finding that you can both respect your father and disagree with him. Wish he was still here to dialog with, he was a gem.
